Patrick Walker galt als Frontmann der britischen Band Warning bereits als einer der begnadetsten Sänger der Doom Metal Szene. 2009 löste sich die Band auf, sein kreativer Drang und sein ausgeprägtes Talent, Melancholie und Pathos musikalisch in Form zu bringen, bewegten ihn aber dazu, fortan auf Solopfaden weiter zu wandeln. Unter dem Namen 40 Watt Sun ist er nun frei darin, jedem Song und jeder Stimmung den passenden Rahmen zu geben, mal mit Gastmusikern in Band-Format, mal ganz intim zur Akustikgitarre im Alleingang, stets ergreifend und wunderschön.

Die Musik von 40 Watt Sun zeichnet sich durch sparsame und durchdachte Arrangements, Downtempo-Rhythmen, Patrick Walkers ergreifenden und eigenwilligen Gesang sowie seine introspektiven, oft düster-konfessionellen Texte aus. Sie nimmt sich viel Zeit und entfaltet dadurch ihre Wirkung nachhaltig. Hank Shteamer vom Rolling Stone Magazine bezeichnete die Musik von 40 Watt Sun als "poetischen, sich allmählich entfaltenden Düsterrock".

Im Mai erschien sein drittes Album „a perfect light“ mit acht Songs darauf, bei denen man stets das Gefühl hat, Patrick Walker sei so sehr angekommen, als hätte er jahrzehntelang darauf gewartet seinen Sound auf diese Weise zu perfektionieren. Er geht einen konsequenten Schritt weg von seinen Doom Wurzeln hin zu Folk Arrangements und Slowcore im Stile der Red House Painters und liefert damit sein wohl stärkstes Werk bislang ab. Im Oktober kann man sich von der Qualität seiner Songs auch live einen Eindruck machen. Im Rahmen seiner Europatour wird er auch in Hamburg Station machen und in unserer beindruckenden Nochtwache auftreten.

Despite my very best efforts to stay healthy for this run of European shows, I've been laid low by a case of laryngitis; my voice has gone and I'm unable to continue. The past three days I've been steadily getting worse and today I've had to make the heartbreaking decision to pull the rest of the dates. I can't afford to stay in Europe while not working in the hope that I may speedily recover, so my only course of action is to fly back to the UK and try to recuperate in time for the UK dates in two weeks.
I'm sorry for all the people who have tickets or will be travelling to any of my concerts. This is a worst case scenario and I'm embarrassed and upset.
