for my millionth play, i'm going with the xenogears map theme (originally most commonly known in english as "aspiration"). actually just letting it loop for a while in the run-up to it, just as i did idling on that screen on my playstation in 1998, back when i was still able to count my age on two hands. it would be a long time before i came to understand what a big influence that game had on me as a child, from the types of music and art closest to my heart all the way up through deciding to live in asia for a decade and counting. and as takahashi himself has said, the game wouldn't be even half of what it is without the music. thanks again mitsuda – be it on this site or not, i'm sure you'll have a lot to do with the next million, too

it pains me that we got a xenogears vinyl release but it lacks “the one who is torn apart”…real pain

chrono trigger "morning sunlight"...local file copy into itunes...set track to start at 0:18 to skip all the fireworks sfx...EQ panel to bring down some of the stray highs and mids (the lead synth should sound half-volume relative to everything else, and a little hazy)...you now have the best relaxation loop of all time

i'm finally importing and playlisting the 'revival disc' of xenogears, and it really is crazy how stacked that soundtrack is...it's true that it was spread a bit thin across a 60- to 100-hour game, but when you listen to it on its own it's just a surfeit of great music. two hours, zero duds, and at least a dozen of the very best pieces to ever make it into a game. it'll never be topped

The man who composed the soundtrack for Chrono Trigger. I've been listening since I was 6 or 7, so thanks for that. The songs have accompanied me my whole life.

Mitsuda-san has composed so many fantastic tracks... So many favourites. I do have a special preference for CREID though. I'll never forget hearing that album for the first time. I was totally captivated. To think it's now almost 20 years old. Damn :)

does anyone know which songs from the Stella Glow OST were solely written by Yasunori Mitsuda? I can't find the individual song credits anywhere on the web

The thing about video game music, though, gorgeous and heart-swelling as it often is, is that the best road of access *is* through the game, when you can hear these songs on loops for minutes and minutes at a time, repeatedly, in the context they were made for. So yeah, sharing it is not easy.

Play it on long car rides when they have no choice but to listen to it all the way through?

How do you explain to your non-gamer friends/loved ones that the Chrono Cross OST isn't just the best game soundtrack of all time, but one of the best albums ever in general? How do you share this beauty with them? Frustrating.
