Fans of 2:54: Since we may never get to hear that 3rd album they were working on, we may, sadly, only be left with what was officially released in their too-brief lifespan. Fortunately, there's some cool stuff to be found beyond the two albums if you know where to look. One cool discovery I just made was that they did a Daytrotter Session, and that this is still officially available from Paste Magazine for free. It's just three songs from the self-titled album, but they're very different takes, more acoustic arrangements. They're now in heavy rotation on my end. https://www.pastemagazine.com/music/254/2-54-daytrotter-session-jun-6-2012

Some bad news on that front. I found an article written by Colette, where she explains that when she was in 2:54, she was a huge alcoholic. Like, the kind who can't do any performances unless she's three sheets to the wind. So the piece was basically about how she got to be sober. She doesn't specifically say that 2:54 is done, but the vibe I got from the piece was that she's in a new career and lifestyle now. As I understand it, one of the things that former alcoholics and addicts have to do, when they get sober, is cut ties to people that enabled the addictive behaviors. So if that was her musician friends and the music world generally... she may be in a place where she needs to keep her musical career permanently behind her. This is depressing, surely; 2:54's work was outstanding, among the best of the decade, and I would have loved to hear that 3rd album. But by the same token, I'm happy for her, and grateful we got what we got. I only wish her happiness, health, and peace.

It was published in Vogue, of all places. It's a pretty bracing read from CJ. I'm happy for her, naturally, and in fairness, she doesn't explicitly say here that she's done with music for good. BUT... I'm getting a kind of vibe here that suggests she might be. I REALLY hope I'm wrong, and that she and her sister return as 2:54 to kick ass again, albeit in a sober way this time. https://www.vogue.com/article/what-i-learned-from-365-days-of-sobriety

Well said! As much as I love this music, and want to hear more, I've never loved music so much that I would want anyone to put themselves into an unhealthy place, mentally or physically, to make it possible. That's not just basic humanity; that's also just respect and admiration for the artists themselves. Fans need to remind themselves of that from time to time. Artists need to tame their muse in their own way - that's when great art happens. We're not customers - we're just along for the ride, should what they produce resonate with us. I remember reading that Juliana Hatfield, for a time, was actively trying to pick up cigarettes as a regular habit, because she was worried her singing voice sounded too girly and innocent, and she thought cigarettes would toughen up her voice, making it more worldly, more "rock and roll." Thankfully, she eventually thought better of it. But I was sad that she ever got a place where she thought she needed to do that. Neither we, nor art, are worth it.

Thanks for posting that! I kept wondering what happened to them. Last I heard, they were working on a third album; they had posted video of them recording. I saw that they would do random shows here and there in the UK. But that was many years ago, like mid to late 10's, and then... nothing. So disappointing, because they were pretty bad ass. I just hope they're happy and doing well, whatever they're up to now, and I'm grateful for what they did release.

Album "2:54" (9,5 / 10) > "The Other I" (8,5 / 10) I think so. Overall, a wonderful music!

New album delivers, not a weak song on it in my opinion. " South" is a great track.

on a side note the closing song raptor might be some sort of hint of how their future albums could sound like

i like how they played more with their sound, definitely worth giving up the more rock oriented songs and focusing to a more introspective, atmospheric, psychedelic mood

Thanks for a great show in Ramsgate last night. The new songs sounded amazing live, especially in such a small and intimate venue. Last night's set list: South, Sleepwalker, In The Mirror, Scarlet, Sugar, Crest, Blindfold, Glory Days, Creeping, Pyro, No Better Prize, Orion.

"The Other I" is an addiction! One of the best records of the year for me. Yet, another flawless record!

Музыка интересная, а вот голос, ИМХО, стоило оставить medieval-folk исполнительницам. Эх.

Только один раз я ждал второго альбома после дебютника также как и в случае с 2:54. Это была Motorama.
