Peak, quintessential early Amon Amarth. I love Twilight, but this just seems to be the album that defines the early part of their career (Once Sent - Twilight). Beautiful tremolos, powerful roars, and truly excellent songwriting.

14 years ago, today: ... this album was released... party time! ... Can we bring it to 7 million scrobbles this week (from 6.9M now)?

The last truly outstanding Amon Amarth album to my tastes. When Asator is the unquestionably weakest song of the batch, you know you've got a serious release on your hands.

Fate of Norns was the first album I heard by this band which didn't quite hook me, but this album right here is where my love for Amon Amarth began! One of their best!

Hands down best album they ever put out. This was their peak. Sadly they have been on a downward spiral after this.

I don't understand the hype. The riffs are minimalistic and boring and the drumming is exactly the same in every song. I don't get why it's even considered melodeath or even considered a staple in the genre for that matter. If it wasn't for the vocals this could have easily passed for heavy metal...the only good track on here is "once sent from the golden hall", and that's from their demo days.

Yeah, now it is. At the time of my shout it was completely white. Guess it was a host problem or something like that...

What's with the cover all of a sudden? By the way, superb album, gives me a real Viking-vibe!
