They really did say they were making new stuff when I made that comment. On their Facebook they even said they made a video.

Soilwork did pretty stellar job with The Living Infinite and back in the day with Natural Born Chaos. Also the Whoracle - Clayman era of In Flames ...

There's no touching "Mind Tricks" isn't that what everytthing is being compared to?

Song-writing is close to equal (but actually better on "Mind Tricks") & the production is better by a "country mile"... FoD is the 2nd best record overall. Christ

The production in CI is awful, unbearable, an absolute abomination. We cannot allow our standards to be that low, I pay for my music and therefore I demand quality

In this case it's not about recording, it's about the mixing. Just listen to the pre chorus ("the blame will tie us together-and pain will hold the strings"), you can barely hear it, it sounds like it's being sung from another room. I don't really feel like I'm nitpicking here, these are glaring issues.

I remember Claudio saying something so stupid about Nebularium I guess not being "his cup of tea" so like... why the hell did he join Disarmonia Mundi? That records incredible & I'm not even someone who I guess leans towards longer tunes on the "proggy" side but the remastered edition of Nebularium & The Restless Memoirs, recently bought it on eBay for maybe $6 or $7 USD so given me an extra reason to listen now that I own that one (only thing I didn't have)

You guys are comical talking about the production of Cold Inferno... it's a notch above The Isolation Game. Best album sonically & as far as songs go will always be Mind Tricks followed by Fragments of D'Generation (which doesn't sound perfect but it works for that album...)

Ummm, yeah the production might be pretty bad on the new album, but it sure as hell doesn't make it a bad album! I'm liking the flow on almost every track and how they still know how to make truly MELODIC death metal. Eventhough Ettore can't fill Bjorn's shoes as a clean vocalist, I think he did pretty damn great job anyway. [3]

I don't understand why there is so much hate against the new record. I'm digging it pretty hard

"Stormghost is an unfortunate mess"; feels good to see I'm not the only one who thinks that, I was starting to question my eardrums.

"Can't say I hear anything out of place with the vocals" not even in the Stormghost chorus?!? Can't you hear it's a complete mess? I tried to listen to it in my car once and I almost cried; ain't that much better on headphones either.

It ain't just the treble; the vocals too sound muddy and overfiltered. Just listen to the Dirge Inferno or Oddities choruses, it's just embarassing, they probably recorded them with a toaster or something

Cold inferno to me sounds just as bad as the ones you mentioned. The Isolation Game definetly didn't ha e top notch production but had least the guitar melodies had a presence and it sounded ok on headphones; Cold Inferno is just hopeless, a muffled ugly mess.

I might be desensitized by how metal sounds gritty, but the production sounds fine to me, albeit the album sounds like a demo but if you want a real example of bad mixing, Metallica's Death Magnetic, the drums are too loud making it sound like your speakers are blown and Insomnium's One For Sorrow sounds like a bad mp3 rip. Those to me are when i start complaining about the production. I suppose gritty or supposed 'grating' sound isn't for everyone but i don't think metalheads are really all that tolerant of bad production even though there's people who would defend Metallica's horrible Death Magnetic production. Also if you got an EQ with Fidelity, crank that up and you might get a better sound out of the album. I keep my level the same but messing around with the EQ settings might improve the quality.

Isolation Game is fatiguing to listen to because it's like a hundred fucking songs. The production is SUPER DUPER LOUD, but I'm okay with that, because I can just turn it down and then it's generally fine. Not so with Cold Inferno. it's just grating as all fuck.

Idk, I thought Isolation sounded bad too -- not as bad as cold inferno but bad enough that it's fatiguing as hell to listen to. It's possible to get an aggressive sound while maintain a decent mix. If DM's trademark sound is this, then it's not good -- sorry. Great writing/musicianship/vocals, terrible mixing and mastering.

"Squeaky" is the right word. And the thing that pisses me off is that all of the reviews I've read so far didn't mention the production issues at all. I think there is way too much tolerance in the metal world in regards to bad production. I mean, I know there is a place for shitty sound in some extreme sub genres but the thing should be limited to that. Elsewhere, a little edge is ok but when shit just goes downhill (like in Cold Inferno) critics and fans alike should point it out and let the artist know. I told them what I think about the sound on Twitter (respectfully), hopefully they noticed it.
