Friend and Foe is the third album of this Portland-based trio. As with their first two releases, it was entirely produced, recorded, and mixed by the band at their own homes using a software technology created by themselves.
After the highly experimental Under an Hour, this release returns to the more pop-influenced stylings of I am the fun blame monster, shining Northwest indie songcraft through a Chicago post-rock lens, illuminating the quiet recesses with an unpredictable, experimental light.
The CD features an intricate packaging layout consisting of die-cut shapes, decoder rings, and hidden messages. It was designed by Brent Knopf and illustrated by cult graphic novelist/cartoonist Craig Thompson. It was nominated for "Best Recording Package" at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
